Why Partner With a Trichologist

Let's Get Real...

A trichologist can support clients with education, scalp assessment, hair-care guidance, progress tracking, and timely referral when red flags appear. That partnership is valuable because many women delay care while trying over-the-counter products that do not address the root cause.

PARTNERSHIP PROVIDES:

  • Earlier recognition of warning signs

  • Education on scalp care and protective styling

  • Accountability and treatment-plan support

  • Documentation of progression over time

  • Referral for biopsy, labs, or prescription treatment when necessary

Alopecia Areata

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks hair follicles, leading to hair loss. It often appears as one or more smooth, coin-shaped patches on the scalp, but it can also affect eyebrows, eyelashes, beard area, and other body hair.

COMMON TYPES OF HAIR LOSS

CCCA

Central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia, or CCCA, is a scarring alopecia that usually begins near the crown or center of the scalp and spreads outward. It predominantly affects women of African descent and is considered the most common scarring alopecia in this group.

Because CCCA scars and destroys follicles over time, prompt diagnosis is critical. Symptoms may include tenderness, itching, burning, or breakage before obvious thinning appears.

Traction Alopecia

Traction alopecia is hair loss caused by repeated pulling or tension on the hair. Tight braids, locs, ponytails, buns, extensions, and weaves can all contribute when worn with excessive tension or for prolonged periods.

Early traction alopecia may improve if the tension stops. Long-standing traction can become permanent, which is why early education and styling changes matter.
